Privacy policy

Studios Vis a Vis runs this website and online shop to give you a considered place to book treatments and buy the products we trust. The site is built on Shopify, which powers the store behind the scenes. This policy explains, in plain terms, what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. By using the site, you are agreeing to what is described here. If any of it is unclear, contact us and we will walk you through it.

What we collect

We only collect what we need to run the studio and the shop, and it falls into two groups.

Information you give us: your name and contact details, your shipping and billing address, your phone number and email, the details of the appointments you book, and the payment information needed to complete a purchase. If you fill out an intake or consultation form before a treatment, that is included too. Payment card details are handled by our payment processor, not stored by us directly.

Information collected automatically: when you use the site, our systems and tools record basic technical information such as your device type, browser, IP address, the pages you visit, and how you move through the site. This helps us keep the site secure, understand what is useful, and improve it.

Cookies and tracking

Like most websites, we use cookies, small files stored on your device, and similar technologies to run the site and understand how it is used. Some are essential, they keep you logged in, hold your cart, and protect against fraud, and the site cannot work properly without them. Others are analytics and advertising tools that help us measure and improve the site and reach the right people with our ads.

We use third-party analytics and advertising tools, including cookies and pixels, to understand how the site is used and to show relevant ads, including retargeting ads to people who have visited the site. These tools collect usage information such as your IP address and browsing activity, and process it under their own privacy policies. You can opt out of personalized advertising through your browser settings and your Google and Meta ad preferences.

How we use your information

We use your information to take and manage your bookings, process payments, fulfill and ship your orders, handle returns and exchanges, maintain your account if you have one, and answer you when you get in touch. We use basic technical and usage information to keep the site secure, prevent fraud, and improve how it works.

We do not sell your personal information.

Marketing, and messages you get either way

We only send marketing, our promotions, offers, and studio news, to people who have opted in, either by signing up for our newsletter or by giving consent at checkout or the front desk. We use Klaviyo to send these emails and text messages. You can withdraw your consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, by replying STOP to a text, or by contacting us, and we will stop.

Separately from marketing, we may still send you messages you need, regardless of whether you have opted in to marketing: booking confirmations and changes, order and shipping updates, responses to your questions, and notices about changes to the site, our services, or these policies. These are part of providing the service, not promotional, so they are not covered by the marketing unsubscribe.

Who we share it with

We share your information only with the services that help us operate, and only as far as they need it to do their job. These include Shopify, which hosts the store and processes payments; Mangomint, which runs our booking and holds client records; Klaviyo, for email and text; our shipping providers; and Google and Meta, for analytics and advertising. Each is bound to protect your information and use it only to provide their service. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, in response to a valid legal request, or to protect the studio, our clients, or others.

Where your information is held

Because the store and several of these tools run on servers outside Canada, including in the United States, some of your information is stored and processed there and may be subject to the laws of those countries, including lawful access by their authorities. We work only with providers required to protect your information to a comparable standard.

How long we keep it

We keep your personal information only as long as we need it: to provide the services, to maintain your account and history, and to meet our legal and tax obligations. Business and tax law requires us to keep records of completed transactions for several years, so the record of a past purchase is retained for that period even after other information is removed. Usage and analytics data is generally kept for a shorter time. When we no longer need information, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

Age requirement

The site and shop are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, and payments run through Shopify's secure, PCI-compliant systems. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so please do not send sensitive information through unsecured channels.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our practices or the law change. When we do, we will post the new version here and update the date above. If the change is significant, we will give notice as the law requires.

02 / Terms

Terms of use

These terms cover your use of this website and shop. By using the site or placing an order, you agree to them. We may update them from time to time, and continuing to use the site means you accept the current version. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

Using the site

You may use this site for your own personal, non-commercial use. Everything on it, the images, text, layout, logo, and design, belongs to Studios Vis a Vis or is used with permission, and may not be copied, reproduced, resold, framed, or reused for commercial purposes without our written consent. You may not use automated tools to scrape or collect content, product listings, descriptions, or prices from the site. We respect intellectual property and expect the same, if you believe something on the site infringes your rights, contact us and we will look into it.

Orders

We try to keep product descriptions, prices, and availability accurate, but we cannot guarantee everything on the site is free of error, and colours may look different depending on your screen. Prices and availability can change without notice. We may correct errors and update information at any time, including after an order is placed, and we are not liable for changing or discontinuing a product. We reserve the right to refuse or cancel any order, and to limit quantities, at our discretion, including orders that appear to be for resale or from dealers or distributors. If we cancel an order you have already paid for, we will refund it.

Products for personal use

Products bought here are for your personal use and may not be resold. We are an authorized retailer for the brands we carry, and reselling them may breach both these terms and those brands' own policies.

Shipping and risk

Once we hand your order to the carrier, responsibility for it passes to you. Title and risk of loss transfer at that point, which is why our returns and shipping terms are set out separately in our Service and product policies.

Not medical advice

Anything on this site about skin, treatments, or products is general information, not medical advice, and is not a substitute for a consultation. Whether a treatment or product is right for you is determined in person, with your history and skin taken into account. If you have a medical condition or concern, speak with a qualified professional.

Your account and conduct

If you create an account, you are responsible for keeping your login details private and for activity under your account. You agree to use the site lawfully and not to interfere with its operation or security. When you contact us or use the site, you are communicating with us electronically and agree that we may respond electronically, which satisfies any requirement that communication be in writing.

Things you may not do

When using the site, you agree not to: use it for any unlawful purpose or to encourage unlawful acts; harass, abuse, or discriminate against anyone; upload viruses or malicious code; scrape, harvest, or collect other people's information; or interfere with or try to get around the site's security. We may suspend or end your access if you do.

Reviews and submissions

If you leave a review or send us feedback, comments, or ideas, you give us permission to use, display, and share them without obligation to you. You are responsible for what you post, it must be truthful, your own, and must not be abusive, misleading, or infringe anyone's rights. We may moderate, edit, or remove content that breaks these rules or that we consider inappropriate, and we are not responsible for content posted by others.

Links to other sites

The site may link to other websites we do not control. We provide those links for convenience and are not responsible for the content, practices, or policies of sites we do not operate. Review their terms and privacy policies before relying on them.

Disclaimer and liability

The site and its contents are provided as is. We take reasonable care, but we do not guarantee the site will always be available, error-free, or free of anything harmful, and we do not warrant that product information is complete or accurate in every respect. To the extent the law allows, Studios Vis a Vis is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the site. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under Ontario or Canadian consumer protection law, which apply regardless of what is written here.

If part of these terms does not hold

If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest still apply. These terms, together with the policies linked from the site, are the whole agreement between you and Studios Vis a Vis about your use of the site. We may end or suspend your access if you breach them, and the obligations that should reasonably survive, such as amounts owing, continue after that.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of Ontario.

03 / Data requests

Your data and how to reach us

Under Canadian privacy law you have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, and to ask us to delete it, subject to the limits the law allows. You can also withdraw your consent to marketing at any time. Withdrawing consent will not affect the information we need to keep to complete your orders, run your bookings, or meet our legal obligations.

When you ask us to delete your information, we remove your client profile from our booking system and erase your personal details from our shop records. We cannot delete everything: business and tax law requires us to keep records of completed purchases for a set number of years, so those are retained in the most limited form necessary until that period ends. When we respond, we will tell you what was removed and what we had to keep, and why.

To make a request, or if you have any question or complaint about how we handle your information, email us at info@studiosvisavis.com, call +1 647-879-3232, or write to us at Studios Vis a Vis, 780 College St, Toronto ON M6G 1C6, Canada. We may need to confirm your identity before we act on a request, and we will respond within the time the law requires. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
