Selective Photothermolysis

Employs a process called selective photothermolysis. This means that it delivers precise pulses of light at specific wavelengths that are absorbed by the target areas in the skin, such as pigmented spots or blood vessels.

Targeting Pigmentation
The light is directed at areas with excess pigmentation (like sunspots or age spots), the melanin in those spots absorbs the light energy. This energy is then converted into heat, effectively breaking down the pigmented cells without harming the surrounding skin.

It is generally suitable for a wide range of skin types and tones. It's most effective on light to medium skin tones. it is not recommended on darker skin tones. 

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME AFTER A TREATMENT?

Treatments typically require minimal downtime. You can usually resume your daily activities shortly after the procedure, making it convenient for busy lifestyles.

IS THE PROCEDURE SAFE?

Yes, it's considered safe. It has a proven track record of effectively addressing various skin concerns with minimal risks when administered correctly. During your consultation, our skincare specialists will assess your suitability for the treatment and ensure your safety throughout the process.

CONTRAINDICATIONS 
  • Pregnant or nursing
  • Currently taking antibiotics or any photosensitizing medications.
  • Permanent implant on the treated area, such as metal plates, screws, silicone implants, or an injected chemical substance.
  • Current or history of cancer, especially skin cancer, or pre-malignant moles
  • Impaired immune system due to immunosuppressive diseases such as AIDS and HIV, or use of immunosuppressive medications.
  • Severe concurrent conditions such as cardiac disorders, epilepsy, uncontrolled hypertension, and liver or kidney diseases.
  • A history of diseases stimulated by heat, such as recurrent Herpes simplex, in the treatment area.
  • Any active condition in the treatment area, such as sores, psoriasis, eczema, and rash, as well as excessively or freshly tanned skin,
  • History of skin disorders such as keloid scarring, abnormal wound healing, and very dry and fragile skin.
  • Any medical condition that might impair skin healing
  • Poorly controlled endocrine disorders, such as diabetes or thyroid dysfunction,
  • Any surgical, invasive, or ablative procedure in the treatment area in the last 3 months or before complete healing
  • Use of isotretinoin (accutane) within 6 months prior to treatment
  • Exposed to the sun within the last 4 weeks
  • Actively using skincare with AHA’s, BHA’s,Retinol, or Vitamin A

When will I see results from LUMECCA, and how long do they last?

The duration of the results can vary depending on the individual, with some patients experiencing results that last for many months. The most visible results are typically seen 1-2 weeks after the treatment, and the skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time. Patients may begin to see an improvement in their skin within 1-2 weeks, and the results continue to improve over time. It is recommended to go for maintenance treatments to prolong the effects.

How many sessions are needed for optimal results? 

The number of sessions needed for optimal results can vary depending on the individual's skin concerns and goals. Typically, a series of 3-5 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results. Patients may begin to see an improvement in their skin within 1-2 weeks, and the results continue to improve over time.

IS THE PROCEDURE PAINFUL?

It's generally well tolerated, and most patients report feeling a mild snapping or stinging sensation during the treatment. The level of pain experienced during the procedure may depend on the individual's pain tolerance and the intensity of the treatment. To minimize discomfort, a cooling gel may be applied to the skin before the treatment.

BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE
  • Avoid sun exposure. In the days leading up to your treatment, it's advisable to minimize sun exposure and use sunscreen when outdoors.
  • Avoid certain skincare products leading up to your treatment. Products containing retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs). Consult with your esthetician if you still have questions.
  • If you are pregnant or nursing, it's advisable to postpone treatments until after this period.

POST-TREATMENT CARE

Gentle Cleansing: Use a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser to wash your face for several days following the treatment.

Sun Protection: Protect your skin from the sun by applying sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, even if you plan to be indoors, as UV rays can still affect your skin.

Avoid Active Skincare: Refrain from using skincare products containing active ingredients like retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), or other potentially irritating compounds for a period specified by your esthetician.

Minimize Makeup: Avoid applying makeup or other skincare products to the treated area immediately after the procedure to prevent potential irritation. Can likely apply makeup two days later.

No Excessive Heat: Avoid hot showers, saunas, swimming, and other activities that may cause excessive sweating for 24 hours following the treatment.

Cooling: Applying a cold compress or cool, damp cloth to the treated area can help reduce any immediate discomfort, redness, or swelling.

WHAT TO EXPECT
  • Some patients may experience some redness and mild swelling immediately following the treatment, but this typically subsides within a few hours.
  • Patients may also experience some sloughing of the sunspots, which typically takes 3-5 days to complete but can take up to several weeks to fully dissipate.
